Eagles Notes: Kolb, Bradley set to start against Jaguars

DETROIT - Quarterback Kevin Kolb and linebacker Stewart Bradley are expected to start Sunday at Jacksonville. Both received medical clearance to return to play Friday night from team doctors and an independent physician.

After sitting out practices all week with concussions, each participated in the team walk-through Saturday and ran some, head coach Andy Reid said.

Asked about the call to stick with Kolb after a strong showing Sunday by backup Michael Vick, Reid said the decision was "not hard at all."

Vick will still have a role on the team, though.

"You saw the last game. It wasn't going to be a five- or six-play-a-game thing," Reid said. "We've incorporated him in there with more than the way we had last year. He'll still have opportunities to make plays."

It was a strange but good day for linebacker Ernie Sims.

Returning to the city where he spent the first four years of his career, Sims got his first win in his last 30 games.

"It felt real good," Sims said. "I'm excited, and I'm eager to get more wins."

Despite all the losing he endured as a Lion, Sims had warm thoughts about his first team and even the former teammate who shoved him in the back.

"I'm blessed to be in Philadelphia, and I'm happy to be in Philadelphia, but I can't lie, that I really miss them," he said.

Sims was a team captain for the Eagles and was in on the tackle on the first play from scrimmage.

"It was definitely real awkward, pretty much just riding up in the visitors' [elevator], being in the visitors' locker room, and being on the other sideline. It was real awkward," Sims said. The feeling went "on and off" throughout the game.

"It definitely went off when I got hit in the back," Sims said. He was referring to when Lions center Dominic Raiola had shoved him from behind well after a play ended, drawing a penalty.

"I'm actually good friends with him," Sims said. Later, he said, Raiola held up a hand in a silent apology.

Rookie defensive end Brandon Graham had his first career sack in his return to his hometown but had to leave the game in the second half with a right-shoulder injury. Reid said that it was either a spasm or a strain and that X-rays were negative.

Graham said he had hurt it while making a tackle on a wide-receiver screen and had a large lump in his back.

Before that, though, "it felt good" to get a sack, he said.

Left tackle Jason Peters twice left the game but returned both times. He hurt an ankle and a knee, Reid said.

The coach said he was "proud of the kid for getting up and getting back in and shaking it off the way he did." Peters was penalty free.

Rookie Nate Allen had his second interception in two weeks. He is the first Eagles rookie since 1979 to notch interceptions in the first two games of the season. Brenard Wilson did it last. . . . Rookie wide receiver Riley Cooper had his first career catch but mishandled the Lions' onside kick late in the game. . . . The Eagles improved their kickoff coverage, holding the Lions to a 21.8-yard average after giving up an average of 31.2 yards against the Packers.

Newly signed fullback Owen Schmitt had two catches for 21 yards, and tight end Garrett Mills, also signed last week, had a 14-yard reception. Rookie tight end Clay Harbor was inactive. . . . Guards Reggie Wells and Max Jean-Gilles dressed after being inactive last week. Neither played. . . . The Eagles had 19 penalties in their first two games, accruing nine for 75 yards against the Lions. . . . Turk McBride, from Camden and Woodrow Wilson High School, started at left defensive end for the Lions and had one tackle and one sack.
