Pa. Girls: Villa Maria goes to 8-1 in field hockey

Sera Berlacher's second goal, with 4 minutes, 44 seconds left in the game, gave Villa Maria a 2-1 win over Sacred Heart and kept Villa Maria atop the Association of Catholic Academies field hockey standings yesterday.

Villa Maria is now 8-1 overall, 7-0 league, with the only loss coming to defending state champion Wyoming Seminary.

Anna Zarkoski needed to make only one save in goal.

Haley Keenan scored on a reverse flick with 10:30 left to highlight host Gwynedd-Mercy's 2-0 win over Merion Mercy. Keenan's goal was the second in the game for the Monarchs (3-4-1), whose Susan Merlini had 12 saves in goal. Emily McCauley also scored for Gwynedd-Mercy.

Bicentennial. Anika Ross scored a first-half goal and Kelsey Rice provided some insurance with a goal in the second half as host Jenkintown topped Bristol, 2-0.

Celise Feller's three goals helped Plumstead Christian top New Hope-Solebury, 4-0. Goalie Erin Dawson made four saves for the shutout.

Public. Megan Brownlie scored a goal and assisted on the other as host Girls High overcame Lincoln, 2-0.

Inter-Ac. Maggie Corcoran scored twice and Katie Gerzabek chipped in with a pair of assists for Notre Dame in a 5-1 win at Agnes Irwin. The Irish (6-0, 3-0) put the game away with three unanswered goals in the second half.

Springside and host Penn Charter played to a 1-1 tie. Hillary McDonald scored for the Lions, while Allison Thompson scored for the Quakers.

Central. First-half goals by Ali Shutt, Natalie Conicella and Erika Zitch gave host Radnor a big lead in a 3-1 win over visiting Ridley.

Strath Haven scored all three of its goals in the second half to beat visiting Marple Newtown, 3-1. Kelly Ruffini, Emily Michael and Alex Duckenfield scored.

Melissa Deutsch scored twice for Conestoga in a 3-0 win at Harriton.

Ches-Mont. Amy Donovan scored a goal and assisted on another as host Unionville topped Great Valley, 2-0.

Goals by Juiie DiGiovanni and Stef Pirri gave host Dowingtown West a 2-0 win over Downingtown East. Vicky King had nine saves in goal for the Whippets (6-2, 6-0).

A goal by Meghan Plank helped host Rustin walk off with a 1-0 win over Kennett.

Pioneer Athletic. Leah High's goal helped lift host Upper Perkiomen past Pottsgrove, 2-0.

Friends Schools. Erika Zecher's goal gave Academy of the New Church a 1-0 win at Germantown Friends.

Nonleague. Kaci Gleason and Heather Jackson scored for Academy Park in a 2-1 win at Christian Academy.

Lower Moreland got two goals apiece from Jen Buell and Brittany Wilson in a 7-2 win at Delco Christian.

Emily Evans' two goals proved to be the difference for Delco Christian in its 3-1 nonleague win at Interboro.

Justine Bednarz and Alexa Krajowski scored for Little Flower in a 2-1 win at Hun School.

Central. Hannah Newman scored three goals and assisted on the other as Lower Merion won at Upper Darby, 4-0. Patricia Neckowicz scored the other goal.

Danielle Gronile had nine saves for Penncrest in a 3-0 win at Springfield (Delaware County).

Lizzy D'Amico scored with 14:50 left in the second half to give host Ridley a 1-1 tie with Radnor. Natalie Miller scored for the Red Raiders.

Friends Schools. Lydia Kring scored two goals and added an assist for Germantown Friends in a 3-1 win at Friends' Central.

Academy of the New Church earned a convincing 7-0 win at Friends Select, getting a pair of goals from Kelsey Kiel.

Kellie Edelblut scored twice for George School in a 4-0 win at Abington Friends. Priscella Wiggins and Emily Stevens also scored.

Inter-Ac. Laura Kurash's goal and two assists gave host Penn Charter a 3-0 win over Springside.

Ches-Mont. Brynn Reid scored and assisted for Avon Grove in a 2-1 win at Coatesville.
