Letters: Democrats seem to have a death wish
Why do the Democrats want to commit suicide? They were very effective at making the previous Republican administration look bad, and very effective in getting enough members in both houses to control them. Why are they constantly willing to push legislation that will see them ousted in the next election?

Take health care, for example. Most Americans are worried about the continual cost increase. Simple approaches to the problem would have been a win-win solution for them: Even if the bills did little, the American public would have approved of the attempt. Now, to pay for their grandiose and frightening change to everyone's lives, they are talking about cutting Medicare. If they actually did it, they would anger both the baby-boom and pre-baby-boom voters.
Then we have the pork-ridden stimulus bill. Add in cap and trade, which will raise gas and electric bills, and you have a political disaster.
We went through this in the first two years of the Clinton administration, and Bill Clinton had to change his politics to survive. I don't think President Obama even understands the damage he's done to his party.
