Services set for Barbara Breen Braut, 74, ob/gyn nurse
Services have been set for Barbara Breen Braut, 74, a former obstetrics and gynecology nurse at Frankford Hospital and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, who died of complications from Alzheimer's disease Nov. 1, at the Life Care Center on Hilton Head Island, S.C.

Services have been set for Barbara Breen Braut, 74, a former obstetrics and gynecology nurse at Frankford Hospital and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, who died of complications from Alzheimer's disease Nov. 1, at the Life Care Center on Hilton Head Island, S.C.
A Funeral Mass has been set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Christ Our Light Church, 402 Kings Hwy. N., Cherry Hill.
Her husband, John A., explained that services had been delayed because three of their five children live in Florida, Texas, and California, and "I wanted to wait" until they would "fly in for the holidays."
Mrs. Braut and her husband lived in Cherry Hill for 36 years before moving to Hilton Head in 2005.
Born in Philadelphia, she graduated from St. Hubert Catholic High School for Girls in 1960 and earned a nursing degree at St. Joseph's University in 1963, with a specialty in obstetrics and gynecology.
"She just loved the children," her husband said, "and the delivery room was her favorite" of all places in hospitals.
Mrs. Braut worked at Frankford Hospital from 1963 to 1988, he said, and on weekends at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital from 1970 through 2001, when she retired.
From 1975 to 1988, he said, she was the manager of the maternity office at Frankford. The hospital is now known as Jefferson Health Frankford.
"Her duties overlapped" for a time between the two hospitals, he said.
Besides her nursing work, she taught childbirth classes for parents at both hospitals, her husband said.
And in the 1980s and 1990s she taught engaged couples about marital responsibilities at the St. Pius X Spiritual Life Center in Blackwood.
"She was very loving," her husband said. "She cared for other people very much."
Every year in Cherry Hill, he said, the Brauts "had traditional parties for the neighbors on New Year's Day. She was a great entertainer."
Besides her husband of 49 years, Mrs. Braut is survived by son John P.; daughters Barbara Winfield, Marybeth Wiener, Katie Andrey, and Joanna Cutrufello; three brothers; two sisters; and 10 grandchildren.
