ASBURY PARK, N.J. - Asbury Park fortune teller Madam Marie Castello, a figure of rock-and-roll mythology thanks to Bruce Springsteen, died Friday, her great-granddaughter Sally Castello told the Asbury Park Press.

The psychic reader and adviser was in her mid-90s.

Ms. Castello had told fortunes on Asbury Park's boardwalk since the 1930s. She became famous worldwide in 1973 when Springsteen paid homage to her in "4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)" with the lyric: "Did you hear the cops finally busted Madame Marie for tellin' fortunes better than they do."
