Asphalt spill cleared from N.J. Turnpike at Exit 3

A tractor-trailer overturned yesterday morning, spilling 5,000 gallons of liquid asphalt across the ramps leading to and from the northbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike at Exit 3 in Runnemede.

The driver, Hassan Daghestani, 37, of Fair Lawn, N.J., was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, a state police spokesman said. He was driving for Mount Hope Trucking Co. of Wharton, N.J.

The ramp between the northbound highway and the Black Horse Pike was closed for several hours while hazardous-material teams from Cherry Hill and Gloucester City cleaned the area.
