Woman critically injured when vehicle strikes horse

A 25-year-old woman was critically injured last night after her vehicle struck and killed a horse that had escaped onto the Route 1 Bypass in Lower Oxford, Chester County. The vehicle struck one of about 10 horses that escaped from a nearby field about 7:30 p.m., said Cpl. Timothy Yetzer of the Pennsylvania State Police Avondale barracks. The horses' owner was apparently trying to round up the animals when one bolted onto the roadway. The accident happened near Mile Marker 7. The victim, whom police declined to identify, was airlifted to Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington. - Andrew Maykuth
