Ridley man to be sentenced for killing wife's dog

A Ridley man has pleaded no contest to animal cruelty and weapons charges for stabbing his wife's dog to death with a samurai sword in July.

James Jones, 47, entered the plea Monday and is scheduled for sentencing Jan. 13. He could face probation or up to three months in jail on some of the charges, said the prosecutor, Deputy District Attorney Greg Hurchalla.

Jones was arrested July 13 after he stabbed the 3-year-old American bulldog, Baby, in front of his wife, Pamela. She had rescued the dog from a shelter when it was a puppy.

James Jones' lawyer, Daniel Armstrong, did not return a call for comment yesterday.
