Benefit for military members in Iraq set on ship

Two local nonprofit groups that support armed-services members in Iraq, Treats for the Troops and Operation Bedding, will hold a "benefit bash" from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday on the Battleship New Jersey on Camden's waterfront.

The event - to include a buffet, dancing and a silent auction - is to raise funds to ship supplies to troops at remote bases in Iraq. Soldiers there need basics such as socks, food and bug spray, according to organizers.

The benefit will be attended by Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne M. Abraham, Camden Mayor Gwendolyn Faison, U.S. Rep. Rob Andrews and other dignitaries and entertainers. Tickets are $60 and may be obtained at
