Three injured as school bus, SEPTA bus collide

At least two people were hurt when a SEPTA bus traveling on Rising Sun Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia struck the driver's side of a school bus at the busy Knorr Street intersection at 9:05 a.m. yesterday, a spokeswoman for the Philadelphia School District said.

The school bus driver, Robin Martin, was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center with unknown injuries. The SEPTA bus driver was also injured and taken to a hospital.

Seventeen students aboard the bus, on the way to the Maritime Academy Charter School in Bridesburg, suffered no serious injuries but were taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children as a precaution, the spokeswoman said. A passenger on the SEPTA bus may also have been hurt, according to SEPTA spokesman Felipe Suarez.

The school bus was operated by Delaware County Transportation, a district contractor, the schools spokeswoman said. Martin will be placed on "no drive" status pending results of an investigation, she said. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
