On summons, plans for a crime?

On the back of a court summons for a traffic ticket, Krystal Mariani had handwritten a "Dear John" note to her boyfriend, David J. Galdo.

Yesterday, prosecutors said it appeared Mariani also wrote out part of a plan to steal from Galdo's great-aunt Rita Hreha on that same summons, which was found in the car that the two murder suspects had been using.

Galdo, 26, and Mariani, 22, have been charged in the March 17 slaying of the 85-year-old Hreha, who was beaten to death in the kitchen of her Yeadon home. A judge ruled yesterday that the case would proceed to Delaware County Court on all charges.

"We'll search the house, then chill," the note read. "U leave & I hide, when she gets home U come in & get her into the kitchen & I'll come in."

The two were clad in red prison scrubs and shackled as they sat in court. Galdo avoided looking at his family and friends who were gathered in the courtroom. When his attorney asked if his father was in the courtroom, Galdo said, "I'm not looking."

Hreha's body was discovered on March 19 by her nephew David M. Galdo, 46, the defendant's father, when he went to check on her.

Hreha had taken in the younger Galdo and Mariani - both drug addicts - to live with her in her Ruskin Lane home. In 2007, Galdo was arrested for stealing money from his great-aunt. Hreha declined to press charges, but her bank did.

Each of the two defendants has told detectives it was the other who used a heavy glass duck figurine to hit Hreha on the head.

Detective Charles List testified yesterday that investigators lifted Galdo's left index fingerprint from a piece of the broken figurine.
