Benefit planned for PGW staffers hurt in explosion

Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5, the Philadelphia Fire Department, and the Philadelphia Building and Construction Trades Council will hold a Wing Bowl benefit Friday for the Philadelphia Gas Works employees injured in last week's gas explosion in the Northeast.

Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5, the Philadelphia Fire Department, and the Philadelphia Building and Construction Trades Council will hold a Wing Bowl benefit Friday for the Philadelphia Gas Works employees injured in last week's gas explosion in the Northeast.

The event will include beer, free wings, and a wing-eating contest, and the winner will receive a weekend trip to the Poconos. Tickets cost $20.

It begins at 3:30 p.m. at FOP headquarters at 1336 Spring Garden St. The wing-eating contest starts at 7:30. Call Steve Weiler at 215-629-3611 for more information.

All proceeds will go to the PGW employees injured in the explosion in Tacony as well as the family of Mark Keeley, the 19-year-old PGW employee killed in the blast. - Allison Steele
