N.Y.C.-to-A.C. train gets trial run

Officials and reporters were given a trial run yesterday on the Atlantic City Express Service (ACES), which will carry passengers directly from New York City's Penn Station to Atlantic City beginning Friday.

Officials and reporters were given a trial run yesterday on the Atlantic City Express Service (ACES), which will carry passengers directly from New York City's Penn Station to Atlantic City beginning Friday.

The line's two ACES trains are a $4.5 million joint venture of Caesars Atlantic City, Harrah's Resort Atlantic City, and the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa that is being funded by the New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development Authority. A one-way first-class fare is $75; coach is $50.

Officials said the rail service, which will make one stop in Newark, is key to attracting more gamblers to the resort.

"Despite the economy, Atlantic City is continuing to evolve into a world-class destination. . . . This train will only add to bringing more New York customers to the resort to experience what we offer here," said Jay Snowden, general manager of Harrah's Resort Atlantic City.
