Corzine to visit N.J. soldiers headed to Iraq

Gov. Corzine traveled to Fort Bliss, Texas, yesterday to join New Jersey soldiers who are soon headed to Iraq.

Corzine was expected to join 3,000 members of the New Jersey National Guard for several meals and entertainment as they prepare to head overseas, likely in early September.

"I believe New Jersey and its courageous families have shouldered the burden of these wars, and now, with this deployment, we have gone above and beyond the call of duty," Corzine said in a statement released by his office.

The National Guard members are part of the 50th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, which is expected to largely serve as military police and jailers in Iraq.
