Westampton police probe fatal motorcycle crash

Police in Westampton Township, Burlington County, yesterday were investigating a motorcycle crash that resulted in the death of a pedestrian who was talking to family.

The accident happened about 10:20 p.m. Wednesday on the Downing Court parking lot of the Westampton Courts Condominium complex, police said. Police said their preliminary investigation indicated that the rider of the motorcycle, for an as yet undetermined reason, lost control of his vehicle and struck the pedestrian, who had been speaking with a family member.

Joseph Steele, 55, a condominium resident, was dragged a short distance across the parking lot. He died at the scene.

The rider of the motorcycle, Antonio Rolon, 19, of the Tarnsfield section of the township, was taken to Virtua Memorial Hospital of Burlington County in Mount Holly for treatment of injuries which did not appear to be life threatening. No charges were immediately filed, but the investigation had not been completed.
