Boy, 7, dies after fall into pool

A 7-year-old Camden boy who was revived after nearly drowning in an Atlantic City casino pool this week has died, police said.

A 7-year-old Camden boy who was revived after nearly drowning in an Atlantic City casino pool this week has died, police said.

Samod Kent was resuscitated after he was pulled from the water at Harrah's Casino on Tuesday and later taken to Cooper University Hospital.

He died shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to Atlantic City police. Autopsy results have not been released.

The boy had been vacationing with his family.

Guests younger than 21 are not allowed in the hotel's main pool. Samod was found in the family pool in the casino's Harbor Tower, where children may swim as long as a guardian is present, said Alyce Parker, a Harrah's spokeswoman.

Samod was with a relative when the accident happened, police said. No lifeguards were on duty, Parker said, which is not out of the ordinary for the resort.

"There are sometimes lifeguards at the pool, but we also ask parents and guardians to watch their children," she said.

The boy went under around 3 p.m., according to police, and two children pulled him to the surface after spotting him at the bottom of the pool.

He was taken to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Trauma Unit in Atlantic City, then to Camden.
