American history In James Ijames' drama The Most Lamentable Trial of Miz Martha Washington, the widowed mother of her country, ill and helpless in her Mount Vernon home, cared for by slaves who will be free when she dies, looks back on her life. Pop art Two shows centered on the particular 1960s art movement and moment: James Warhola: Visiting a Pop Icon features the artist's illustrations from his children's book about his uncle, Andy Warhol, along with pages from Warhol's early sketchbooks, while Art Goes Pop presents genre examples from Robert Indiana, Jeff Koons, Roy Lichtenstein, Peter Max, William Wegman and others. Twist and turns Though he's one of the great filmmakers, it's perhaps his idiosyncratic style that makes it unlikely for Preston Sturges to automatically make anyone's list of the top directors. So it's good to be reminded of his charms once in a while, as with the 1942 comedy The Palm Beach Story, a fast-paced, twist-a-minute screwball tale of twins, an unhappily married couple, a much-married society gal, and the richest man in the world (Rudy Vallee) twirling about in Florida.
