Netflix, filmic powerhouse, announced Wednesday that it has inked Adam Sandler to a four-flick deal. They'll premiere on Netflix only, no studio involved, no theatrical run. Sandler, one of Netflix's most-watched stars worldwide, said in a statement, mature as ever, that he said yes because "Netflix rhymes with Wet Chicks."
Meantime, Facebook - Facebook! - has announced a stellar lady panel (Kristen Stewart; Kate Winslet; Julie Bowen; Twilight Saga author Stephenie Meyer; Octavia Spencer; Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke; producer Cathy Schulman; and Jennifer Lee, codirector of Frozen) to choose lady directors for five short Twilight Saga films. All-new cast. Plus, Netflix will team with the Weinstein Co. to release Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend on Netflix and in select IMAX theaters in August.
