Sean Bean's many masks

United States of Tara's heroine Tara (Toni Collette) has no choice when it comes to her alters. A multiple personality disorder sufferer, she's inhabited by several different people. But Legends star Sean Bean's new character, undercover FBI agent Martin Odum chooses to go all MPD as he takes on new identities - with full life stories of their own - for months at a time.

"The opportunity to play multiple characters in the same series is exciting," Bean (Game of Thrones) tells USA Today. "I'm often a lead guy who is kind of an anchor. But [Odum] turns into complex, quite flamboyant characters."

Bean, who costars with Ali Larter and Steve Harris, undergoes exhaustive preparations before assuming each persona. He thinks through "how [the guy] looks, walks, what he would wear. Does he wear glasses? How does he talk? Is he American? Is he English?" he says. "You put all those things together. When it does click, that's a good feeling."
