Viridity gets $1.6M grant for UC-San Diego project

Viridity Energy Inc., the Conshohocken smart-grid company, has received a $1.6 million grant to optimize the distributed-energy system at the University of California, San Diego.

Viridity Energy Inc., the Conshohocken smart-grid company, has received a $1.6 million grant to optimize the distributed-energy system at the University of California, San Diego.

The grant from the California Public Utilities Commission will fund a project designed to improve the economics of solar-cell deployment. UC San Diego generates most of the electrical power consumed on the campus.

Viridity, founded in 2008, is working with clients such as Drexel University and SEPTA to improve the economic efficiency of their power systems.    - Andrew Maykuth
