Pa. jobless rate rises

Pennsylvania's unemployment rate rose in March by one-tenth of a percentage point to 9.0 percent, the state Department of Labor and Industry said Thursday.

Pennsylvania's unemployment rate rose in March by one-tenth of a percentage point to 9.0 percent, the state Department of Labor and Industry said Thursday.

While the number of state residents with jobs rose by 2,000 in March, unemployment rose by 5,000, which led to the higher jobless rate.

The total labor force - those with jobs or seeking work - rose by 6,000 to 6,458,000.    - Paul Schweizer
