DUBLIN, Ohio - Health-care products and services company Cardinal Health Inc. says it will cut 600 jobs as it streamlines its business into two primary segments. The cuts are about 1.5 percent of its global work force.

Cardinal said today that the restructuring will group its units into a Healthcare Supply Chain Services segment and a Clinical and Medical Products segment.

Cardinal Health employs about 480 people in the Philadelphia area after buying Conshohocken medical technology company Viasys Healthcare Inc. last year.

Chairman and CEO R. Kerry Clark says the changes will save money and make the company more efficient.

Cardinal says the job cuts include 160 open positions that will not be filled. Employees whose jobs are eliminated will be offered severance benefits. The company employs 40,000 people overall.
