Hail Mary pass?

LAST WEEK'S announcement that two Catholic schools would be closing their doors had the city and neighborhoods reeling.

One of our readers saw the news as a chance for a grand gesture to mark the passing. Here's the idea - which we heartily endorse - in the reader's own words:

"Publics vs. Catholics. In each neighborhood in the city, these adjectives fueled great rivalries that included bragging rights, hatred and love, but most of all respect. Before the stratification of society, people from both camps lived next to each other and looked to an annual Thanksgiving Day gridiron clash for a sense of pride lasting the entire year.

"The Grandaddy of them all is the North-Frankford game. A rivalry born of neighborhood spirit, it morphed into a way for people to connect with their alma maters, their friends and the communities in which they spent their formative years. With the closure of North Catholic, the final game should be a celebration of its history and traditions As many people as possible should be able to attend this game. As Lincoln Financial Field offers the largest venue and is the seat of football in this city, this is where the game should be held." How about it, Eagles?
