Cash-sniffing dog comes through at airport

Nina, the currency-sniffing dog, sniffed out a bonanza Friday at Philadelphia International Airport - $41,500 in the checked luggage of a passenger bound for Jamaica. The money was concealed in the suitcase liner, Stephen Sapp, a spokesman for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency, said.

That was in addition to $1,802 in the carry-on bag of the woman, a U.S. citizen, who was headed to the Caribbean. The woman had declared that she was carrying $5,000, Sapp said. The woman abandoned the $43,302 and was released, he said. There is no limit to how much currency travelers can carry into or out of the country, but they must declare amounts exceeding $10,000.

2FAKE BAGS SEIZED

Federal agents seized $150,000 worth of fake handbags, boots and makeup during a raid at Rice's Market, near New Hope, yesterday morning. Authorities said that no arrests were made as Homeland Security agents focused on supposed Burberry scarves and handbags, Ugg boots and MAC cosmetics being sold by nine vendors.

3POLICE NEED PUBLIC'S HELP

Police are asking for the public's help in finding three men who they say robbed a Southwest Philadelphia insurance agency Saturday afternoon. The men, all in their mid-to late 20s, came into the Pierce Insurance Agency, 63rd Street near Haverford Avenue, about 4:15 p.m. brandishing handguns, cops said. They took the wallets of everyone inside plus another $500 and fled, cops said. Tipsters can call Southwest Detectives at 215-686-3183, 84. UPDATE: COP-SHOOTING SUSPECT CAUGHT

The third and final suspect in the shooting of police Officer Kevin Livewell in July was captured by U.S. marshals yesterday in Oxford Circle. Richard Martinez was taken into custody on Devereaux Avenue near Loretto and charged with attempted murder and related offenses, police said. He was found to have about $1,000 in marijuana, police said.

WOMAN FOUND DEAD

A woman in her 20s was found dead inside an abandoned property on Rutledge Street near Indiana Avenue in Kensington about 7:45 p.m. yesterday. The cause of death wasn't immediately known.
