The school district has announced that due to the forecast of excessive heat, all district and city-run programs in the public schools will dismiss early at 12:30 p.m. today. Classes normally end at 2:45 p.m. for the more than 50,000 students in summer school. Among the 128 buildings being used in the summer program, just 50 have central air conditioning; 78 have window units in some classrooms. The district will proceed "day-by-day and see what the next day's forecast will be," said a district spokesman.
