Prelim in crash that killed 4

The two men charged in a car crash that killed three children and a young mother in June are to appear today in a Philadelphia court for a preliminary hearing. Donta Cradock, 18, and Ivan Rodriguez, 20, have been charged with murder, conspiracy and related counts in the deaths of Remedy Smith, 11 months; Aaliyah Griffin, 6; Gina Marie Rosario, 7; and Remedy's mother, LaToya Smith, 22.

Police said Cradock drove into a group of people on a sidewalk on 3rd Street near Annsbury in Feltonville on June 10.

Santiago off civil-service panel

Roberto R. Santiago, who stepped down as executive director of the nonprofit agency Concilio after child molestation allegations surfaced, has resigned from the city Civil Service Commission effective Monday.

"It is with a deep sense of regret that I must present my resignation from the Civil Service Commission," Santiago, 51, wrote in a letter to Mayor Nutter. "I must now dedicate my full attention to care for private personal matters."

His two stepdaughters from a previous marriage filed police reports alleging that Santiago abused them, but the District Attorney's Office decided not to prosecute Santiago in the case.

New home for Sticky the cat

Sticky, the cat so named because she was found wrapped in duct tape, has been adopted by a family that wishes to remain anonymous, the Pennsylvania SPCA announced yesterday. The animal agency received nearly 100 requests to adopt the feline, whose bondage from neck to paws in duct tape was captured in photos seen around the world.

Verizon pays 300G settlement

Verizon agreed to pay $300,000 to a former service technician at its Bryn Mawr facility to settle sexual harassment and retaliation claims, according to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Theresa Allen of Media alleged that when she complained about being sexually harassed at the facility, coworkers repeatedly hung large plastic rats from the ceiling of a garage where she worked and she was eventually fired.

Register to vote by Monday

Secretary of the Commonwealth Pedro A. Cortés reminds all eligible Pennsylvanians that the deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 3 municipal election is Monday. The municipal election will feature local and county races, as well as candidates for Supreme, Superior, Common Pleas and Municipal court seats.
