Labor Day activities & closures

The holiday is on Monday, of course, and there will be plenty to do, like visiting the Philadelphia Museum of Art or attending minor-league baseball games in Camden and Wilmington, Del.

Guided tours will continue as usual at Independence Historical Park, and a variety of Philadelphia cultural institutions will be open on Monday, including the Franklin Institute, the Please Touch Museum, the Academy of Natural Sciences and the Philadelphia Zoo.

Union members will receive free, self-guided tours of the Battleship New Jersey on Monday, according to its Web site.

Several local pols will gather at 4 p.m. for a "Labor in the Graveyard" tour of the Old Pine Street Presbyterian Church's historic graveyard. The tour will kick off a fundraising campaign.

Minor-league baseball games on Monday will feature Camden hosting York at Campbell's Field and the Wilmington Blue Rocks taking on Maryland's Frederick Keys at Wilmington's Frawley Stadium.

Longwood Gardens, in Kennett Square, Chester County, will feature a holiday Fireworks and Fountains show on Sunday and will be open Monday.

The Daily News will not publish on Monday.

There will be no mail. Trash and recycling pickups in Philadelphia will be pushed back one day all week. State liquor stores will be closed Monday. So will most banks.

SEPTA will run regular Saturday and Sunday schedules and a Sunday schedule on Monday.

City services closed Monday also include:

* District health centers.

* The Free Library and all branches.

* Recreation centers.

* Courts, although Municipal Court's arraignment court at the Criminal Justice Center will be open.

* The Department of Licenses and Inspections.

* North and Northeast Municipal Service Centers.

* Philadelphia Parking Authority offices and Violations branch.

* Philadelphia Gas Works customer-service centers will be closed Monday. PGW's Center City office at 1127 Chestnut St. will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow for bill payment and service restorations only.

* Peco Energy business operations are closed but emergency services will operate at 800-841-4141.
