Dan Gross: Halkett 'still shaken' by hotel intruder

"I'M STILL shaken, I can't believe this happened," Kerri-Lee Halkett said yesterday about waking up Thursday night in her Maine hotel room to find a masked intruder brandishing a crowbar.

"I'M STILL shaken, I can't

believe this happened," Kerri-Lee Halkett said yesterday about waking up Thursday night in her Maine hotel room to find a masked intruder brandishing a crowbar.

The Fox 29 anchor, rooming with a friend, New York newscaster Jodi Applegate, jumped out of bed and ordered the creepazoid to leave. Applegate's golden retriever Willow's growling further impelled him to beat it.

Then the women called 9-1-1.

"When I was confronting him, he stood there silently looking at me - I've never been so scared," said Halkett, who was in Maine to attend a friend's wedding. The Canadian-born anchor, who has worked in Philadelphia for nearly 10 years, said, "It just proves crime can happen anywhere."

Halkett and Applegate stayed in the same hotel last night, but were moved to a different room.

"Now I know how a crime victim feels," Halkett wrote. "Normally, I read these stories, this time I lived it," said the anchor, who is back on the air Wednesday.
