A Florida man who is suspected of robbing an Upper Darby Wawa this week was arrested Tuesday night as he boarded a plane to head for drug rehab, police said.

About 4 a.m. Sunday, Brian Holmes, 24, of Delray Beach, punched a Wawa clerk, causing her to fall and break her wrist, police said. He then stole $100 from her drawer, Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.

Police had few leads until a confidential informant told them he had heard Holmes bragging about the robbery, Chitwood said.

Information was obtained that Holmes was flying back to Florida about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to enter a rehab center for addiction to cocaine and Oxycontin, according to police.

Police arrested Holmes as he was saying goodbye to his family at the airport.

"He was shocked," Chitwood said. "We decided to give him his own intervention courtesy of the Upper Darby Police Department."

Holmes was charged with robbery, aggravated assault and related crimes, Chitwood said. He was being held in the Delaware County Prison.
