McGarry blends pop & jazz

On her own and as part of the idiosyncratic vocal supergroup Moss, Kate McGarry takes an organic, almost folksy approach to songs. Her voice embraces a lyric, effecting a deceptively casual intimacy that sounds like a whisper even at its most exuberant.

On her own and as part of the idiosyncratic vocal supergroup Moss,

Kate McGarry

takes an organic, almost folksy approach to songs. Her voice embraces a lyric, effecting a deceptively casual intimacy that sounds like a whisper even at its most exuberant.

McGarry's here with a configuration that promises to enhance that delicately personal touch, backed only by her usual guitarist (and husband) Keith Ganz, with drummer Clarence Penn on electronic percussion. Her upcoming album "If Less is More . . . Nothing is Everything" (Palmetto), continues her habit of comfortably treading the line dividing pop and jazz, with songs by Bob Dylan, Irving Berlin and even the Cars' "Just What I Needed," reimagined as a tender acoustic ballad.

Philadelphia Museum of Art, 26th Street and Ben Franklin Parkway, 5:45 and 7:15 tonight, free with regular museum admission of $14, 215-763-8100, www.philamuseum.org.
