He also maintains the expansive grin that was a fixture of Puente Sr.'s onstage persona. Not that the expression is so difficult to conjure with the effervescent Afro-Cuban rhythms that play out behind him as he works the timbales.

Puente Jr. formed his orchestra in 2004, four years after the death of his father. Also involved with the Big 3 Palladium Orchestra, co-led by a trio of sons of famed Latin music figures, it's clear that Puente plans to keep his legacy alive.

Inspired by the French animated film "The Triplets of Belleville," the Puppini Sisters formed to revive the lost art of '40s harmony singing. Dolled up in period outfits, the trio gives the Andrews Sisters treatment to tunes of that era and this.
