Eagles' Sidney Jones still not practicing; Doug Pederson says no timeline yet for return

Doug Pederson said the Eagles "don't want to rush [Jones] back just yet" from rehabbing his torn Achilles tendon.

Eagles cornerback Sidney Jones remains on the non-football injury list with a torn Achilles tendon suffered in March and is eligible to begin a 21-day practice window. With only five weeks remaining in the season, the clock is ticking if the Eagles want to bring him back. As of Wednesday, it doesn't sound like the team has a set plan for Jones to return.

"Not right now," coach Doug Pederson said. "He's obviously still doing well with his rehab. He's getting better there, and again, don't want to rush him back just yet."

Jones is a consistent presence around the team, attending every meeting and traveling to road games. He is with the team at practice, though, although he cannot participate. If Jones is healthy enough to practice in December, it would make sense for the Eagles to get him on the field. They have not seen him do football activities since drafting him. Once Jones begins practicing, the Eagles would have 21 days to activate him to the active roster or place him on injured reserve.

If Jones does not play this season, it will not count as an accrued season and he will be a restricted free agent at the end of his four-year contract. That would give the Eagles a chance to offer him a restricted free agent tender after the 2020 season and match any contract he signed with a different team.
