Where to see live theater throughout the Jersey Shore

From Asbury Park to Rehoboth Beach, theater lovers can get their stage fix and their Shore fix this summer. Musicals, community theater, and family shows abound, while established theaters sling some serious stagecraft around Cape May.

The Ocean City Theatre Company keeps the great tradition of local community theater alive, with Mamma Mia! Cape May is again the theatrical center of the southern Shore.

At the Cape May Stage, the theme is “Surprise,” according to producing artistic director Roy Steinberg. “All great art is both surprising and inevitable,” he said. The East Lynne Theater Company starts its summer programming with the New Jersey premiere of Arlitia Jones’ Summerland (June 12-July 30), based on a true story about early photography and spiritualism, followed by an American classic, N.
