From Asbury Park to Rehoboth Beach, theater lovers can get their stage fix and their Shore fix this summer. Musicals, community theater, and family shows abound, while established theaters sling some serious stagecraft around Cape May.

Where to see theater on the Jersey Shore

In Deal Park, a short shout from Asbury Park, the Axelrod Performing Arts Center has a full season, with Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida (May 31-June 16), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (July 11-28), Alice in Wonderland (Aug. 25-29), and the Remember Jones band performing Tommy (Sept. 7-8). axelrodartscenter.com, 732-531-9106

Also Atlantic City-adjacent, the Eagle Theatre in Hammonton has My Way (May 31-June 23), a musical tribute to Frank Sinatra. eagletheatre.org, 609-704-5012

In Beach Haven, Long Beach Island, Surflight Theatre rocks the isle end to end with a classic, summer-stock feel. The lineup: Holiday Inn (June 6-23), Flashdance (June 25-May 14), Matilda (Aug. 6-25), and Ain’t Misbehavin’ (Aug. 27-Sept. 8). surflight.org, 609-492-9477

The Gateway Playhouse in Somers Point has a big summer show in Company (June 14-23) by the Shaken Not Stirred Players. And Broadway by Request (July 21-22 and 27-28) covers eight decades of Broadway songs of every genre. gatewaybythebay.org, 609-653-0553

The Ocean City Theatre Company keeps the great tradition of local community theater alive, with Mamma Mia! (July 9-12, featuring the Ocean City Pops), a high-school version of The Wedding Singer (July 27-28), Newsies (Aug. 6-9, featuring the Ocean City Pops), and a middle-school version of Guys and Dolls (Aug. 23-24). oceancitytheatrecompany.com, 609-398-1118

In Margate, the Margate Players will present Singin’ in the Rain (May 29-31), Once on This Island (July 18-20), and Bye Bye Birdie (Aug. 8-10). margateplayers.com

Cape May is again the theatrical center of the southern Shore.

At the Cape May Stage, the theme is “Surprise,” according to producing artistic director Roy Steinberg. “All great art is both surprising and inevitable,” he said. Summer kicks off with a recent Broadway success, the explosive Heisenberg (May 22-June 21), followed by Sylvia (June 26-Aug. 2) and a new play, Kim Powers’ Sidekicked (Aug. 7-Sept. 20), about Vivian Vance of I Love Lucy. capemaystage.org, 609-770-8311

The East Lynne Theater Company starts its summer programming with the New Jersey premiere of Arlitia Jones’ Summerland (June 12-July 30), based on a true story about early photography and spiritualism, followed by an American classic, N.
