Report: Union's Amobi Okugo to sign with Orlando City SC

As the Union's season came to a close, the spotlight grew on midfielder Amobi Okugo's expiring contract.

it was no secret that the last remaining player from the team's inaugural season in 2010 wanted to try his luck in Europe, and Union manager Jim Curtin said as much publicly. So the Union made Okugo a contract offer, allowing the team to retain his rights in MLS should he decided to return to the United States.

Word got out Sunday night by way of The Philly Soccer Page's Eli Pearlman-Storch that Okugo rejected that offer, and as a result, the Union agreed to trade him to expansion club Orlando City SC.

PSP reports that the deal will be announced as early as Monday morning, when MLS opens a half-day trading window ahead of the December 10 expansion draft. Teams can make deals between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Eastern Time, at which point rosters are frozen.

The Union will receive allocation money in return from Orlando, with Goal.com's Ives Galarcep reporting that the total amount is $100,000. PSP reported that the Union will also receive a SuperDraft pick, though Galarcep reported that they will not.

Had Okugo signed with a European club this winter, the Union would have received nothing in return for his departure.
