NBA | Heat top Cavs, get playoff spot

CLEVELAND - Bumped and bruised, but playoff-bound, the Miami Heat will officially defend their NBA title. Antoine Walker and Shaquille O'Neal scored 20 points apiece and the Heat clinched a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs last night, beating the Cleveland Cavaliers, 94-90, in overtime.

Antoine Walker and Shaquille O'Neal scored 20 points apiece and the Heat clinched a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs last night, beating the Cleveland Cavaliers, 94-90, in overtime.

LeBron James, who didn't hide his frustration several times, scored 35 with nine rebounds and five assists for Cleveland. Drew Gooden had 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Cavaliers, who fell from second place to fifth in the Eastern Conference.

Spurs 92, Suns 85

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Tony Parker scored 35 points and Tim Duncan added 22 as San Antonio held on to beat Phoenix. Steve Nash's 20 points led the Suns.

Arenas to have surgery. The season for Washington Wizards point guard Gilbert Arenas essentially came to an end yesterday when an MRI disclosed he would need surgery on his left knee.

Arenas was diagnosed with a lateral meniscus tear and was to have arthroscopic surgery later yesterday at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington.

The Wizards said the recovery time will be two to three months.

Arenas was hurt in Wednesday night's loss to Charlotte.

Artest hearing postponed. Ron Artest's court hearing on misdemeanor domestic battery charges was postponed three weeks.

Artest was charged March 21 with battery and corporal injury to a spouse, false imprisonment and dissuading a witness from reporting a crime. Each carries a maximum penalty of a year in county jail. He has pleaded not guilty.
