Phillies Notes

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Minor-league pitchers and catchers report to the Carpenter Complex today, and it wouldn't be surprising to see

Kyle Drabek

there soon.

But before reporting to minor-league camp, Drabek started for the Phillies last night against Florida State at Bright House Networks Field.

Drabek, the team's first-round pick last June, would have been a college freshman this year. Seminoles second baseman Tony Thomas Jr. introduced him to the college game when he led off by hitting a 1-1 fastball for a home run.

"I didn't like it too much, but it didn't really bother me because of the people I have on my team," said Drabek, who allowed two runs, two hits and a walk in two innings, striking out one. "I just knew I needed to go back out there and throw strikes."

"These two weeks have been great," Drabek said. "Everybody has helped me out. It's been a great experience."

Drabek's father, Doug, was there to watch his son.

"I'm glad he was here," Kyle said. "I'll probably have a talk with him later."

Phillies 12, Florida State 4

Chase Utley

crushed a three-run homer to center in the first inning to give the Phillies a 3-1 lead. Utley finished 1 for 2. "It was the first game, but it was nice to have a good feeling walking away," he said. . . . Leftfielder

Pat Burrell

was 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI. Burrell played in college at Miami, and Florida State coach

Mike Martin

showed his respect for Burrell's college accomplishments by pretending to walk Burrell in the first inning with a runner on first and no outs. "I didn't know what was going on," said Burrell, who doubled to score

Ryan Howard

. . . .

Shane Victorino

stole second base in the second inning. "I got one so far," said Victorino, who has been working on base-stealing with first-base coach

Davey Lopes

. "Thanks, Davey." . . .

Greg Dobbs

, who is fighting for a bench job, hit a two-run homer in the sixth.
