Thursday’s Southeastern Pa. roundup: Miller notches another hat trick for Villa Maria

Hannah Miller notched her second consecutive hat trick as the Villa Maria field hockey team defeated Sacred Heart 8-0. Miller scored five goals in the victory and now has eight goals in her team's first two games. Also scoring for Villa Maria were Mary Harkins, Adele Iacobucci, and Kara Maniscalco.

Skylar Alcaro, Olivia Lockhart, and Jordan McGonigle scored in West Chester Rustin's 3-0 win against Avon Grove. Alcaro, Christine Ditizio, and Blaise Cugini notched assists for the Golden Knights. Meg Hadfield saved 12 shots in goal to preserve the shutout.

Girls’ soccer

Kate Gordon scored twice and assisted on another goal as West Chester Henderson defeated Oxford 5-0 on Thursday. Natalie Miller, Olivia Pritchard and Riley Cantando scored the team's other three goals. Kasey Coonan picked up two assists, while Gordon and Grace Zandi had one assist.

Phoenixville and Lower Moreland tied, 2-2, in double overtime. Elizaveta Galli and Mary Michaud scored for Phoenixville, and Allison Asmann and Alexandra Krutsinge scored for Lower Moreland.

St. Basil and Villa Maria finished in a 1-1 draw after two scoreless overtimes. Cara Hughes scored for St. Basil and Bella Carlucci scored for Villa Maria.

Gretchen Smeins knocked in two goals in West Chester East's 4-0 win against Coatesville. Margaux Fleming and Maya Moktan also scored.

Paige Mastripolito and Kelli Ann Matey found the back of the net as Archbishop Carroll defeated Hallahan, 2-0, for its first win of the season. Carroll goalkeeper Nicollette Cashin made three saves to post the shutout.

Boys’ soccer

West Chester Henderson topped Oxford 4-0 behind two goals from Jack Cotellesse and one score each from John McCann and Joao Argolo.

Chris Comber, Zach Delone, Joey Hennessy, Nate McCourt, Owen Murless and Chris Repko scored in Downingtown East's 6-1 win against Sun Valley. Cougars' goalkeeper Jacob Blevins made three saves.

Westtown defeated the Perkiomen School, 4-0, behind goals from Osmyn Atwood, Tim Novak, Joe Lordi, and Junior Enwereji.

Ethan Emery scored the game-winner in Penncrest's 1-0 win against Springfield (Delco) in overtime.

Heat and weather cancels games

Mother Nature did not cooperate with Thursday's scheduled Southeastern Pa. games. For the second consecutive day, the School District of Philadelphia had an early dismissal. All after school activities were canceled. The Central Bucks School District dismissed its students early on Thursday, cancelling after school activities. Thunderstorms later in the night postponed and canceled games from several other schools.
