–Last season, Carson Wentz finished 28th in the NFL in third-down passing. Had a 67.0 rating, completed just 55.8 percent of his third-down attempts and threw just three touchdown passes and five interceptions on third down. He was much more effective on third down in Sunday's 30-17 win over the Redskins. Wentz completed 9 of 11 third-down passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns. His third-down passer rating Sunday was 158.3. He averaged 13.4 yards per attempt on third down.

–The Eagles converted eight of 14 third-down opportunities against the Redskins. Eight of their third downs were eight yards or more. They converted four of them, including Wentz's 58-yard first-quarter touchdown pass to Nelson Agholor on third-and-12. He also completed a 30-yard pass to Torrey Smith on third-and-10 and a 23-yard pass to tight end Zach Ertz on a third-and-10. Last year, the Eagles converted just 22.8 percent of their third downs of eight yards or more.

–Zach Ertz was targeted by Wentz eight times Sunday and had eight receptions for 93 yards. Five of his catches resulted in first downs. In his last two games dating back to last season, Ertz has been targeted 24 times and has 21 catches for 232 yards. Over the course of a 16-game season, that computes to 168 catches and 1,856 receiving yards.

–Running back LeGarrette Blount had just 46 yards on 14 carries against the Redskins. Four times he carried the ball with three or less yards to go. He converted just one of those four carries into a first down.

–The Eagles have won eight of their last 10 season openers, including six of their last seven. They have won five of their last six season-openers on the road.

–Wentz is the fourth Eagles quarterback since 1950 to win his first two opening day starts with the team. The other three: Mike Vick, Norm Snead and Adrian Burk. – Paul Domowitch
