Eagles-Buccaneers: Key stats and matchups for Week 2 in Tampa | Paul Domowitch

— The Eagles did an impressive job on Matt Ryan last week. They held him to his lowest completion percentage (48.8) since 2011. Ryan failed to throw a touchdown pass for just the sixth time in the last six years.

— Ryan was 1-for-9 for 3 yards in the red zone. He had an interception and was sacked once inside the 20 as the Falcons converted just one of five red-zone opportunities into a touchdown.

— Ryan and the Falcons have lost their last three games to the Eagles. They've scored a total of 37 points in those three games. Ryan's passer rating: 73.1.

— Since the start of 2017, the Eagles have racked up more quarterback hits (135) than any team in the league.

— The Eagles blitzed on 11 of 47 pass plays against the Falcons (23.4%). Ryan completed just 3 of 8 passes for 47 yards when the Eagles sent more than four rushers. His red-zone interception came against a blitz. So did three of his four sacks. In their last two games against the Falcons, including January's divisional playoff win, the Eagles have blitzed 19 times in 86 pass plays (22.1%). Those 19 blitzes have produced five sacks and an interception.

— In 2017, the Eagles had a 69.3 opponent passer rating when they blitzed.

— Ryan was 18-for-35 for 218 yards with one sack when the Eagles rushed four.

— Nick Foles attempted 34 passes against the Falcons. Just seven of those 34 traveled 11 or more yards beyond the line of scrimmage. None of those seven were completed. He was 0-for-3 from 11 to 19 yards and 0-for-4 from 20 yards and beyond. Three of his four 20-plus yard passes were targeted for Mike Wallace. The fourth target was backup tight end Dallas Goedert.

— In the Eagles' playoff win over the Falcons, Foles was 0-for-2 on 20-plus yard throws, 4-for-5 from 11-19 yards, 13-for-15 on throws of 0-to-10 yards and 6-for-6 on throws behind the line of scrimmage. He completed 8 of 13 passes of 20-plus yards in the NFC Championship Game and Super Bowl LII against the Vikings and Patriots.

— Despite the absence of Alshon Jeffery, the Eagles used mostly three-wide receiver sets against the Falcons. Forty-nine of their 64 offensive plays, or 76.6 percent of them, were run with "11" personnel (1 RB, 1 TE, 3 WR). They used "12" (1 RB, 2 TE, 2 WR) just 11 times and "13" (1 RB, 3 TE, 1 WR) four times. Foles was 15-for-25 for 98 yards and sacked twice when the Eagles used "11".

— The Eagles ran the ball just 10 times in the first half and 17 times in the second half against the Falcons. Jay Ajayi played just nine snaps in the first half and had three carries for 11 yards. He played 20 of the Eagles' 34 second-half snaps and had 12 carries for 51 yards.

— Ajayi was more productive running out of under-center formations than shotgun. He had 27 yards on four carries from under center and 35 on 11 carries from shotgun. Just nine of the Eagles 64 offensive plays against the Falcons were from under center. In their playoff win in January, 18 of 63 plays were from under center.

— Excluding Foles' kneel-down at the end of the first half, the Eagles had just one negative rushing play against the Falcons. That was a one-yard loss by Ajayi on a second-and-three run in the fourth quarter.

— The Eagles converted all four of their third downs of two yards or less against the Falcons. All four plays were run plays. Last season, the Eagles converted 25 of 37 third downs of two yards or less (67.6 percent), which was the ninth best third-and-two-or-less success rate in the league.

— There were 26 penalties called in the Eagles-Falcons game, 11 on the Birds. That's the most total penalties called in an Eagles game since Week 2 of the 2015 season against the Cowboys, when there also were 26 penalties. The Eagles had 11 penalties last year in their win over the Bears.

— Five of the Eagles' 11 penalties against the Falcons were on their specials teams.

— Foles, who completed 26 of 32 third-down pass attempts in the playoffs and finished with the best third-down passer rating in NFL playoff history (158.1), was 6-for-10 for 51 yards on third down in Week 1. He also caught a third-down pass from wide receiver Nelson Agholor for 15 yards. Ryan was just 6-for-13 for 74 yards and three first downs on third down. The Falcons converted just four of 15 third-down opportunities, and only two of their last 11.

— The Falcons ran the ball just 18 times against the Eagles, and only nine times in the final three quarters. In the Eagles' last 20 games, including the playoffs, just three teams have had more than 25 rushing attempts against the Eagles: the Cowboys in Week 17 (32), the Raiders in Week 16 (33) and the Cowboys in Week 11 (27). Opponents averaged just 21.1 rush attempts per game against the Eagles last season, which was the fewest in the league.

— The Falcons opened the game last week with an 11-yard run by wide receiver Julio Jones and a 20-yard run by running back Devonta Freeman. After that, the Eagles held them to 43 yards on 16 carries, or 2.7 yards per carry. The Falcons had just two more rushing first downs the rest of the game.

— The Falcons averaged 4.8 yards per carry on first down against the Eagles. Last season, the Eagles allowed just 3.4 yards per carry on first down.

— Punter Cameron Johnston had an impressive NFL debut. He averaged 52.2 yards on six attempts and had a 47.0-yard net average. His first three punts traveled 56, 65 and 58 yards. His gross average was the highest by an Eagles punter in a game with at least five attempts since 2012 when Mat McBriar averaged 56.6 yards on five punts in a Week 5 win over Detroit. But McBriar's net average that day was just 38.8.

— Eagles receivers had just 63 yards after the catch in Week 1, and 22 of those yards came on throws behind the line of scrimmage.

— Agholor's 16-yard run against the Falcons was his seventh career rushing attempt (37 yards).

— In five games against his former team, DeSean Jackson has 20 catches for 440 yards (22.0 yards per catch) and 2 TDs.

— The Falcons averaged 9.94 yards on first down against the Saints last week. QB Ryan Fitzgerald, was 12-for-14 for 239 yards and two TDs on first down.

— The Buccaneers defense allowed 8.67 yards per first-down play to the Saints in Week 1.

— DeSean Jackson and Mike Evans combined for 12 catches for 293 yards and three TDs v. the Saints.

— Fitzpatrick has a 74.5 career passer rating against the Eagles. He's played them five times. In his last two starts against the Eagles, in 2015 with the Jets and in 2014 with the Texans, he has a 69.8 passer rating. He completed just 57.1 percent of his passes and averaged just 5.8 yards per attempt against them in those two games, with four TDs and four interceptions.

— The Eagles have scored on their first possession just twice in their last 10 games, including the playoffs.

— Ryan threw 12 passes to his tight ends and running backs last week. He completed just seven for 64 yards.
