Women's roundup: St. Joe's beats VCU, La Salle falls to GW in A-10 tourney

Chelsea Woods scored a career-high 33 points for St. Joe's in the opening round.

Chelsea Woods scored a career-high 33 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the sixth-seeded Hawks past the visiting Rams in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Championship.

Sarah Veilleux had 14 points, three rebounds and four assists for Saint Joseph's (16-13). Alyssa Monaghan recorded 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
Taya Robinson led No. 11 VCU (7-22) with 18 points and four rebounds.

The Hawks are on to the quarterfinals, where they will face the No. 3 seed Fordham on Friday at 7 p.m.

GEORGE WASHINGTON 69, LA SALLE 49

The Explorers fell behind at halftime and couldn't catch up, losing to the host Colonials in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Championship.

Adreana Miller led the 12th-seeded La Salle (8-22) in scoring with 14 points. She shot 5-for-13 from the field, going 3-for-7 from three-point range.

Shalina Miller came up with 13 points and seven rebounds, and Amy Griffin added 12 points, five rebounds, and six assists.

Brianna Cummings put up 18 points for George Washington (16-13), the tournament's fifth seed, and Kelli Prange recorded 16 points off the bench.

The Colonials advanced to the quarterfinals, setting them up to face No. 4 George Mason on Friday.
