John Flanders intercepted a pass in the end zone with 36 seconds left, stopping Notre Dame's final drive Saturday as Tulsa pulled off one of the biggest wins in its history, shocking the Irish, 28-27, on an emotional day in South Bend, Ind.

G.J. Kinne hit a 31-yard pass to Ricky Johnson on a third and 26 and also connected on a 32-yarder to Genesis Cole to set up Kevin Fitzpatrick's 27-yard field goal with 3 minutes, 23 seconds left to put the Golden Hurricane up by one.

Notre Dame (4-5) drove down the field behind backup quarterback Tommy Rees, who entered the game in the first quarter when starter Dayne Crist left with a knee injury in the first quarter.

But on a second and 8 from the Tulsa 19, Rees lofted a pass toward the corner of the end zone and Flanders picked it off. After the Golden Hurricane (5-3) ran out the clock, their players raced to the end zone to celebrate with their band.

Rees threw four TD passes but was picked off three times.

Notre Dame was playing just three days after the death of Declan Sullivan, a 20-year-old student videographer filming the team's practice Wednesday when the hydraulic lift he was in fell over in high winds.

Maryland 62, Wake Forest 14 - Danny O'Brien threw four TD passes, Kenny Tate and Ryan Donohue each scored on interceptions, and the Terrapins (6-2, 3-1 ACC) rolled past the Demon Deacons (2-5, 1-4) in College Park, Md.

Syracuse 31, Cincinnati 7 - Ryan Nassib threw a pair of touchdown passes as the Orange (6-2, 3-1 Big East) beat the Bearcats (3-5, 1-2) in Cincinnati.

Elsewhere: Patrick Witt threw three second-quarter TD passes and Yale withstood a Columbia comeback to win, 31-28, in New Haven, Conn. . . . Emani Fenton broke up a two-point conversion pass and then intercepted a pass in the end zone with 23 seconds remaining to seal Cornell's 21-19 win over Princeton in Ithaca, N.Y. . . . Dan Persa threw two TD passes before leaving midway through the fourth quarter with an apparent concussion, and backup Evan Watkins set up a long field goal to help Northwestern hold on for a 20-17 win over Indiana in Bloomington, Ind.

Darryl Whiting carried 38 times for 251 yards and two first-quarter touchdowns for Fordham in a 24-19 win over Georgetown in New York City. . . . Josh Lenz returned a punt 62 yards for a TD, lifting Iowa State past Kansas, 28-16, in Ames, Iowa. . . . Josh McGregor threw a school record seven TD passes as Jacksonville slammed host Morehead (Ky.) State, 61-17. . . . Steven Threet returned from last week's concussion to throw for 300 yards and hit Jamal Miles on two of his three touchdown passes as Arizona State routed Washington State, 42-0. . . .
