No. 24 Marquette upsets No. 6 Pitt in OT

James scored 23 points and Dan Fitzgerald and Wesley Matthews had 14 each as the Golden Eagles (17-4, 4-2 Big East) improved to 4-1 against Top 25 teams and dealt Pitt (17-3, 5-1) only its second home court loss in 30 games the last two seasons.

Ronald Ramon scored 21 points and 7-footer Aaron Gray had 16 points and nine rebounds despite sitting out the final 31/2 minutes of regulation, when Pitt surged back after trailing 60-51. Marquette led 48-37 earlier in the half.

The Panthers, who had never led or been tied since holding a 10-9 lead, sent it to overtime on Ramon's two free throws with 3.5 seconds remaining, but still fell to 0-3 against ranked teams this season. Pitt had been the last team unbeaten in Big East play.

Notre Dame 82, South Florida 58 - Rob Kurz had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Colin Falls added 14 points to lead the No. 20 Fighting Irish (16-3, 4-2 Big East) over the visiting Bulls (10-10, 1-5) in South Bend, Ind.

Virginia Tech 67, Maryland 64 - In Blacksburg, Va., the 23d-ranked Hokies (14-5, 4-1 Atlantic Coast) needed overtime to turn back the visiting Terrapins (15-5, 1-4). Zabian Dowdell scored 19 points for the Hokies.

Virginia 88, Wake Forest 76 - J.R. Reynolds hit six three-pointers and scored a career-high 40 points, leading the Cavaliers (11-6, 3-2 ACC) over the Demon Deacons (9-9, 1-5) in Charlottesville, Va.

Wake Forest got 14 points from freshman Jamie Skeen but only eight from Kyle Visser, who arrived fourth in the conference with a 17.9-point scoring average.

St. John's 64, Syracuse 60 - In New York, Avery Patterson made two three-pointers in the final 1:08 and the Red Storm (11-8, 2-4 Big East) beat the visiting Orange (15-5, 4-2) to end a four-game losing streak.

Anthony Mason Jr. had 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Red Storm.

Devendorf had 23 points, 18 in the second half for Syracuse.

Army 53, Navy 50 - At West Point, N.Y., Matt Bell hit three three-pointers and scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Black Knights (13-7, 3-2 Patriot League) over the Midshipmen (11-9, 1-4).

Greg Sprink scored a game-high 19 points for Navy.
