Grand Slam Champions highlight Philadelphia Freedom's 2014 schedule

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Philadelphia Freedoms will begin their 15th season of Mylan World TeamTennis (WTT) with a six match road trip beginning July 6 against the Springfield Lasers. The Freedoms, with marquee player Victoria Azarenka, will make their 2014 home debut on July 15 against former world No. 5 Daniela Hantuchova and the new San Diego Aviators team.  This starts a stretch of seven exciting regular season home matches at the Pavilion at Villanova University over the course of ten nights, concludingJuly 23.

"After drafting one of the strongest teams in Freedoms history, we are looking forward to a winning season of Freedoms Tennis in one of the most passionate sports cities in the country," said Philadelphia Freedoms Senior Vice President and General Manager Barbara Perry.

The Freedoms home schedule is also highlighted by a visit from former world No. 1 Andy Roddick and the Austin Aces on July 21 and two matches against the archrival Washington Kastles, winners of three straight Mylan WTT championships (July 17 and 23).  The team will announce special promotions and theme nights in the coming weeks.

The Philadelphia Freedoms have drafted seven-time Grand Slam women's and mixed doubles player Liezel Huber, current No. 5 ranked doubles player Marcelo Melo (@MarceloMelo83), former No.1 Canadian player Frank Dancevic, and 2013 Freedoms rookie sensation Vicky Duval (@Vicky_Duval95) during the 2014 Mylan World TeamTennis (WTT) Roster Draft held Tuesday, March 11. The team also recently welcomed former world No. 1 Doubles great and one of the greatest athletes to ever come out of Philadelphia, Lisa Raymond (@LisaRaymond73) to their front office staff where serves as Director of Player Personnel.

With Mylan WTT's gender-balanced team concept, each team is comprised of two men, two women and a coach. Team matches consist of five sets, with one set each of men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles. Each team will play 14 matches - seven home, seven away.  Eastern Conference teams are the Boston Lobsters, Philadelphia Freedoms and Washington Kastles.  Western Conference teams are Austin Aces, San Diego Aviators, Springfield Lasers and Texas Wild.
