Services set for journalist Claude Lewis at Villanova

A memorial service is set for noon Friday, March 31, for journalist Claude Lewis, who made history as the first person of color to write a regular column in a major Philadelphia newspaper and inspired generations of African Americans to follow him into the profession.

Mr. Lewis, 82, of Cherry Hill, died Thursday, March 16, of complications from diabetes at Virtua Voorhees Hospital. His writing appeared in the Evening Bulletin and, later, the Inquirer for many years.

The memorial service will be at Garey Hall on the Villanova University campus. The university is at 800 E. Lancaster Ave. Garey Hall parking is at Spring Mill Road (Rte. 320 North) and County Line Road.
