Richard F. Nace, 85; salesman

Richard F. Nace, 85, formerly of Haddonfield, a salesman for a paper supply firm, died of complications from pneumonia Tuesday, June 4, at Evergreen Woods, a retirement community in North Branford, Conn.

Mr. Nace retired in 1995 after a 37-year career as an account executive with the Philadelphia office of Lindenmeyr Munroe, son Andrew said.

"He sold primarily coated paper for glossy printing of pamphlets, annual reports, catalogs," his son said.

"He enjoyed the type of sales" in which he worked, which was "a repeat account sale. He developed long-lasting friendships with customers."

Mr. Nace began his sales career with the paper supply firm Garrett-Buchanan Co. in Philadelphia, working there from 1950 to 1958, his son said.

Mr. Nace grew up in Haddonfield and graduated from Haddonfield Memorial High School in 1946, studied agriculture at Rutgers University, and graduated from the Charles Morris Price School of Advertising and Journalism, where he earned its Barclay J. Doyle Award in 1950.

A member of the Y's Men's Club of Haddonfield, Mr. Nace was a member of the Poor Richard Club, the Lincoln Table at the Union League, and the Rotary Club, all in Philadelphia.

A Philadelphia sports fan, Mr. Nace regularly attended the annual Army-Navy football game in South Philadelphia.

Mr. Nace was a member of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church and the First Congregational Church in Branford, Conn.

In addition to his son, Mr. Nace is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dixie; another son, Richard F. Jr.; and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers.

A memorial service was planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at the First Congregational Church, 1009 Main St., Branford, Conn.
