Frances L. Bruner | Community volunteer, 103

Frances L. Rees Bruner, 103, a former Prospect Park citizen of the year, died Thursday, Jan. 26, at Prospect Park Nursing Home.

For 38 years, Mrs. Bruner was a comptometer operator at the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Eddystone. After Baldwin closed in 1972, she was a Tupperware consultant for 20 years. She was a top saleswoman in Delaware County in her 70s, said a granddaughter, Debbie Bruner.

Mrs. Bruner was president of Prospect Park Women's Auxiliary in the 1980s and later was president of the Prospect Park Federation Club.

She was a volunteer for American Red Cross blood drives in Delaware County for 30 years. Even after she stopped driving a car at age 92, she volunteered for three more years, recruiting a grandchild to drive, Debbie Bruner said.

Mrs. Bruner was honored as Prospect Park's citizen of the year in 1998.

She was a longtime member of Olivet Presbyterian Church and St. James Episcopal Church in Prospect Park, often attending services at both churches on Sundays. For more than 40 years, she was a Bible teacher at Main Bible Institute in North Philadelphia.

Mrs. Bruner graduated from Chester High School in 1926, and in 1930 married Fritz E. Bruner.

Four years later, when they separated, she went to work for Baldwin; relatives helped her care for her two young children.

Mrs. Bruner is survived by a son, Fritz; a daughter, Anne Hufnal; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Olivet Presbyterian Church, 1001 Washington Ave., Prospect Park, Pa., 19076. Friends may call from 10 a.m.
