Barbara Quick Lorndale, 78, formerly of Wynnewood, a volunteer organizer for the annual Vassar Show House, died of cancer Saturday at Waverly Heights, a retirement community in Gladwyne.
A native of Princeton, Mrs. Lorndale earned a bachelor's degree from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. She studied architecture at Cornell and Columbia Universities and worked for architects in New York City and Richmond, Va. In 1957, she married Robert G. Lorndale. They raised two children in Merion and Wynnewood.
Mrs. Lorndale served as president of the Vassar Club of Philadelphia in 1972 and for more than 30 years, until 2004, served on its Vassar Show House committee. The annual fund-raising event benefited scholarships to Vassar. She was in charge of the show house program, said her son, Robert Jr., which included a history of the house selected that year and listed contributing interior designers and ad patrons.
Mrs. Lorndale also volunteered at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.
In addition to her son, she is survived by a daughter, Deirdre Griffin; a brother; and six grandchildren. Her husband died in 1998.
