Forecasts of heavy rains have prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood watch for a good part of Southeastern Pennsylvania and all of South Jersey.

The watch begins at noon and runs through this evening.

Up to two inches of rain are forecast for Philadelphia and its Pennsylvania suburbs while South Jersey could receive up to three inches by 8 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. If flash flooding appears imminent in an area, the weather service will issue a flash flood warning.

The rains should end overnight.

The high today will be about 73 in Philadelphia and around 72 at the Shore. A small craft advisory also is in effect for boaters at the Shore starting at 2 p.m..
