A 4-month-old boy was in critical condition at a Philadelphia hospital last night after a two-car accident in the Frankford section that left several other people with minor injuries.

The child, whom police did not identify, was riding on an adult's lap in the backseat of a 2000 Buick when the Buick and a 2001 Mercury Mountaineer crashed at Penn Street and East Cheltenham Avenue at 4:27 p.m.

The Buick was carrying six adults and four children; none of the children was in a car seat, police said. Two people were in the Mercury.

All the children were taken to St. Christopher's Hospital, but only the 4-month-old was held. The adults were treated at Albert Einstein Medical Center. - Tom Infield
