A 28-year-old woman was sentenced Friday to 10 years in a New Jersey state prison for causing a 2015 accident that killed her estranged husband and another woman in Burlington County.
Shade Cooper of Connecticut was a military police officer in the Air Force and was stationed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst when she caused the Dec. 2 accident that killed Nicholas Cooper, 26, and Jocelyn Redding, 23, of Hamilton Township.
A Superior Court jury in June found Cooper guilty of two counts of second-degree reckless manslaughter. Cooper was tried last year, but that jury deadlocked.
Prosecutors said Shade Cooper got angry when Redding came to her apartment on the base to pick up Nicholas Cooper, who was visiting his children. Shade Cooper got into her vehicle and pursued the pair in their Hyundai Elantra for about 10 miles.
